Halloween Recap

As you know we LOVE Halloween around here. I think its because the cooler weather is starting to come in and that is a real cause for celebration. Like a, OMG WE CAN GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT DYING celebration. Mind you, in the 5 years prior to this one, son and I had spent the majority of our summer indoors trying not to go crazy and moping about being stuck inside. So it shouldn't surprise you that after spending just about everyday outdoors in the cool Northwest this past summer that this year our Halloween/change of seasons celebration was just a bit more subdued. I may have even grumbled something along the lines of "trick or treating in 80F... that's just colorful metaphor ridiculous." How quickly I forget. Yes, you read that correctly - we went trick or treating!! Son's first time and he had a blast.

Now that Son is 5 he is much more aware of everything! And he picks up on things like trick or treating from tv and kids in ways that he never did before. Hooray for improved cognition!! This year we did not Zoo Boo. Its the first time since Son was born that we didn't go but I'm actually ok with it. We also did not go to the pumpkin patch either. We did decorate the whole house while Grandma was here. We did go to a Fall Festival. Most importantly, we went Trick or Treating!! We joined some other families from Son's social skills class and had so much fun! It was nice to take a walk with our very excited kiddos and see them running, chasing and enjoying themselves. Charlie and I got to talk to other adults. Son got to play and get candy. Then we picked up dinner from our favorite place and came home. We tried to watch Scared Shrekless but it was to0 scary (yay improved cognition!! he used to watch it without blinking) so we watched Wild Kratts and called it a night. Before he fell asleep I heard "I had a fun day today." For our little family, for this year, it was perfect - just what we needed and ended with smiles all around.
